What is "Living on Middle Ground"?
In May 2008 I receive the Hooper Undergraduate Research Award from Northern Arizona Unviersity. The award allows me to write four creative works, two short stories and two creative nonfiction essays based around my experiences and the experiences of other's who are members of the Dine Communities or have spent time within that community.
Between now and July 2009 I will be conducting interviews, researching, and writing. The end result will be the aforementioned creative writing pieces. In all four works I plan to address issues that affect Reservation life such as how technology has changed the Reservation, the unique education one gets when attending Reservation schools, as well as racial and social conflict on and off the Reservation. I aim to create an intimate and exciting portrait of displaced cultural identity.
